reproductive technologies
- reproductive technologies
A term applied by feminists to technologies used for regulating biological reproduction. They include technologies of contraception and abortion (such as the pill and IUD), childbirth (foetal monitoring), and infertility (for example the much-publicized in vitro fertilization). The term, implicitly contrasting the technological with the natural, usually suggests an overly interventionist application of science, and a wresting of power away from individuals themselves, usually women.
